A Visit with Judi Powers & Russell Jones
May 6, 2023The Plan B Art Project Opening Reception
June 2, 2023Artist Colette Ross-Boggan, B.F.A will present her amazing “Grandpa’s and Gradma’s House” art collection at an opening reception at Robert Goodman Jewelers on May 12 from 5-8pm.
Colette’s art, which will be up at the store from May 1-31, is a collection of memories of visiting her grandparents in Indianapolis. Her grandparents moved to Indianapolis in the mid-1950s from Walnut Grove, Mississippi. As with many African Americans that migrated to the North from the Jim Crow south, that mentality and fear came right along with them. Much could be seen in the household in which they lived.
In her series of collages, you can see what Colette’s experiences as a kid growing up in the late 1960s and 1970s were and what being at her grandparents’ home was like. Her grandmother was domestic, and her grandfather worked at the foundry. Never did the Southern inferior complex escape their shaping. This can be seen in this collection.
Stop in to enjoy great art, great conversation, and great company!
