Designer Welcome Packet

Getting to know Robert Goodman Jewelers and how we cultivate meaningful relationships with our customers in collaboration with you.

Letter from Bob and Rose-Marie Goodman

Dear Valued Independent Jewelry Designer,

We are delighted to welcome your jewelry collection to Robert Goodman Jewelers. As a family-owned business located in Zionsville, Indiana, we take great pride in the relationships we build with artisans like yourself.

Over the last several years, we've deepened our commitment to structuring our business decisions around our core beliefs and values. Our "Human Model" approach ensures that we consider the impact of every action we take, from how we interact with customers, our partnership with you and to how we support the communities that produce the materials used in creating fine jewelry.

“Our Promise” is simple: we believe that every person involved in the jewelry-making process deserves respect, fair treatment, and recognition. This commitment manifests in various ways:

  • We actively support local charitable organizations through donation programs
  • We prioritize environmentally responsible practices in our operations
  • We carefully select partners who share our values regarding ethical sourcing
  • We advocate for inclusive policies that benefit our entire community

As you may notice from our social media presence, we are loud and proud about our position on these matters. We believe that business can be a powerful force for positive change, and we don't shy away from standing up for what we believe in.

You, your work, and your practices are critical to our ability to deliver on our promise to our customers. We've created a Pathway for Designers to support you in your endeavors while helping us meet the expectations of our customers and our collaborators along the journey of making jewelry.

This Welcome Packet outlines our mutual expectations for a beneficial relationship. Please read it carefully as it contains important information about collaborating with Robert Goodman Jewelers.

We look forward to a successful partnership.

Warmly,

Bob and Rose-Marie Goodman

The Human Model
The Human Model in Action

The “Pathway for Designers” revolves around six important categories.

Customers align with Robert Goodman Jewelers because of our stand on social justice issues and our commitment to offering jewelry that is made respecting people and planet.

For those customers deeply interested and curious, it’s important for us to offer an engaging story while communicating factual information that backs up the sustainable and responsible sourcing claims for every piece of jewelry while highlighting the designers’ efforts.

This honesty and transparency is what we expect from our partner relationships and what makes people interested in our store.

Beyond the industry jargon, we make an effort to talk in plain English while making sure there is data, proof, and documentation to legitimize the story. This way we are fulfilling our promise to our customers, we are confident in our facts, and jewelry designers are celebrated and promoted - a win-win-win.

To achieve this, Robert Goodman Jewelers needs the designer’s help to meet our customers’ expectations. The criteria and process below explain how and why Robert Goodman Jewelers determines which designers to carry.

We look at the designer’s disposition toward sustainability efforts, desire to source responsibly, commitment to continuous improvement and capability to share facts. The idea is to encourage each designer to increasingly use responsibly sourced materials as the relationship evolves. See our Sourcing Policy for more details.

How you share information with Robert Goodman Jewelers about your jewelry matters to us. We need your help in order to accurately communicate with our customers, whether that be in-person, on our website or social media. Here is a sample invoice/inventory sheet from which to model your own. Please contact us with any questions.

You’ll see from the sample that we are looking for information about where your materials come from and how they were produced and sourced, in addition to the product description and price. When you don’t know, let us know that too.

You may also attach a document with a detailed list inventorying each gemstone. There is no such thing as too much information to help us sell.

Marketing & Communications: Telling the world about your jewelry and commitments.

Talking about your jewelry and practices is important. At Robert Goodman Jewelers we’ve seen the proof that speaking up and out attracts customers who are looking to support the same values with their purchases. Our goal is to build brand and the success of each individual designer in the store. Part of the Robert Goodman Jewelers ethos is to make everyone successful. We believe the brick-and-mortar store should buy your jewelry, not ask for a consignment, because we don’t expect you to be our bank.

We expect you to communicate with us and to your own customers with honesty and integrity, being attentive to the language you use and the claims you make. We encourage you to be wary of “salesy” terms and deceptive terminology that might lead to greenwashing and to stay away from misrepresenting facts and data about your jewelry and materials.

Most designers we showcase sell in both wholesale and retail markets. This makes sense, and given the role that brick-and-mortar retail stores like ours have in the jewelry market, we have a few requests:

Put Robert Goodman Jewelers as a stockist on your website.
Refer customers to Robert Goodman Jewelers.
Don't poach customers.
Collaborate with us on social media.
Keep us updated.
Reach out with questions.
